The Yourdori Story: What is a Fauxdori and Why They Rock!

What is a fauxdori?
A fauxdori is planner/journal cover inspired by the original Traveler's Notebook Midori brand.  The Midori is a leather cover.   A fauxdori can be made of fabric, or a thick cardstock or vinyl even.  Inside the cover are some elastic bands that are attached along the spine.  This is a photo of fauxdori that a friend of mine, Nilly, makes. They are gorgeous,  aren't they?  Her company is called StoriDori.com. Cute, huh?
Now what you put inside your fauxdori, held in place by these bands, are notebooks. Notebooks that could be used for planning, journaling, doodling, painting, notes, coloring, brain dumps, memory keeping, mixed media and much more!  That's why I love it so flippin' much!

My sweet friend,  Cara, of The Hooting Pirate first introduced me to them. Hers were super cute, and I loved them.  Yet it just didn't click at the time, that this was exactly what I needed!

It's a beautiful concept that has been staring me in the face for over a year now.

Now, it does! Not only is it the ideal type of planner/journal system for me, it rocks a lot of other people's world too!

What are we making?
Then I had a light bulb moment!  I'm going to make my own style of fauxdori!  I couldn't get the idea out of my head and the more I thought about it, the more I fell in love with it, so much so that I asked my bestie, Dana, to be my partner.  She said yes and here we are in day 18 of our Yourdori journey.

The Yourdori Planner is going to be your planner, your way.  We are going to be sharing our designs and our prototypes every step of the way.  Some people will say, "Why are you sharing your product secrets and your ideas?  Your secret sauce will not be so secret at all."

Well, because, when we decided to make The Yourdori Story a transparent journey it just becomes a part of the deal.  And truth, if someone gets our ideas to market first, they will only have a product.  It will not be a Yourdori, nor will it have all the special touches that only Dana and I can give it.  It won't have the Yourdori community and that's it.

What is the Yordori Community?

The Yourdori Community is all the people we have met over the last two years or so since my original idea of Domesticraft, "a place where craft happens."  I don't want to leave any of my friends behind on this new journey, I want to take them with me.

I've learned so much.  Met peeps from all over the world. Dana and I created the Gratitude Girls Cheer League so that we could build connections with real people, and get to know them where they live.  The Bonafide Boss Lady idea (if you've seen me on instagram) came out of the information I've been storing up on how to self start a Biz.  All of our friends are a part of the Yourdori Story.

So, this is a peek of the paper prototype of The Yourdori! Woot! It's a pretty simple concept, with so much room for creativity and individuality.

Next week we'll be sharing another prototype, this time made of muslin. I'm chomping at the bit to get started on this next step!

Monday,  Yourdori will be a whole 21 days old.  Time is moving fast and already we feel like we have gone over some big hurdles.  We set up the website (by ourselves,)  we are getting established in the social media (did you see our Facebook page and Instagram?) we sent out our very first newsletter, and now we are sharing our planner/journal/awesome idea!

We hope you've enjoyed learning a bit more about The Yourdori Story.  Join us on Monday for a mini party.  Because we are that excited about creating our product.  If you have any questions or ideas, please do let us know in the comments.  We are so happy you are hanging out with us and giving us such awesome feedback!   Your encouragement has touched our hearts in ways we couldn't have ever imagined and we thank you, deeply. ♡
